Shangri-La has been operating resorts on Penang longer than anyone else, and claimed the best stretch of beach on Batu Feringgi. Shangri-La has two neighboring properties on this site, Golden Sands and Rasa Sayang.

Some 14 of the 390 rooms have been converted into suites for families. The other rooms have been given a face-lift to reflect the unique and popular interior decoration themes used in Malaysia. For example, dark wood carvings and colourful fabric are used to give the rooms the outlook of a contemporary Malaysian home.
Many rooms come with Murphy beds that can comfortably accommodate a third person in the room and up-to-date facilities such as LCD TV, DVD player, satellite TV channels, USB/iPod/modem ports in a user-friendly audio-visual panel and free broadband Internet access.
