Friday’s Riverside, Brisbane
Friday's Riverside is a lively bar and restaurant that is the centerpiece of
Brisbane’s iconic Riverside Centre. As one of the city’s premier destinations, it is
considered a great place to enjoy a long lunch or evening drinks with friends. The
bar and restaurant spaces were recently earmarked for refurbishment and
Brintons was commissioned to the project after the venue’s General Manager
visited the Brintons stand at the Brisbane Hospitality and Gaming Expo in 2009.
He was so impressed with Brintons’ capability and expertise that he asked his
architect, Design 320, to work with Brintons.
Client Brief
Friday’s Riverside is renowned for being fresh and cutting edge and Design 320
was challenged with creating an interior that was both funky and functional.
Design 320 specified a heavily textured and serviceable carpet design that would
be suitable for use in an interior space with heavy footfall. The final design and
colour scheme had to complement other areas in the venue that were not being
refurbished at the time.
Creative design approach
To ensure it delivered a carpet solution that was on brief, Brintons used its
extensive library of design collections as inspiration for its work at Friday’s
Riverside. Design 320 was particularly attracted to Brintons’ newly-launched
‘Reverb’ collection and a selection of designs were chosen to be customised
through scale and colour by Brinton’s skilled design team ahead of the final
selection being made.
The solution that was delivered
A design from the Micro story within Reverb was
selected for use at Friday’s Riverside. The design
features a textured, practical background with organic
trailing lines. It was chosen because Design 320
thought it was sophisticated yet not overly formal.
Brintons was requested to darken the colour palette
to enhance the serviceability of the carpet and the
final design made reference to colours featured
elsewhere in the interior scheme; rich tones from the
timberwork and colours in the artwork.
Services provided by Brintons
Brintons delivered a full design and project management service to the client.
This included the use of Brintons design collections for inspiration, colour prints,
flooded floor plans, full-scale plots and samples. Brintons also provided the client
with tufts of the colours used in the design to aid the selection of other finishes
for the bar area.

Brintons’ lead designer on the project said: “The final installation looks fantastic.
The design is perfectly suited to the environment in which it is being used and
has made a very practical carpet that will hide stains that are commonly found in
bars. The colour bank that was used compliments the other finishes in the interior
creating a modern and inviting space and the great design brings the whole room
together naturally.”
Client Reaction
“We are pleased with the finished installation. We
chose to work with Brintons because we wanted to
install a carpet that would stand the test of time
through its quality. The previous carpet we had in the
bar had only been in place for two to three years but
was already looking tired and needed replacing. ”
“Our timings meant that we opted for a standard
pattern that only required modifications to the pattern
size to suit the proportions of the space and to work
with the other colours used in the interior. The result is impressive. The
patterning makes the carpet practical and aesthetically, the design livens the
space and gives it more energy. Working with Brintons was straightforward and
easy. Although I was based in Melbourne and my client in Brisbane, I worked with
both the Brintons team on the ground in Brisbane and the team in Melbourne.
The service was seamless, meaning I was able to see the design development as
it progressed to final approval.”
