Anolis Illuminates Soul of Surfers Paradise

Anolis Smart White LED fixtures are illuminating the contours of Soul, a 243m tall residential tower and retail complex located in the centre of Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast. This state of art building, when completed, will become the second tallest building on the Gold Coast, behind Q1.

The design of the Soul includes 288 apartments on 77 floors and 5,700sqm of retail space. Tony Dowthwaite from TDLD was commissioned to specify the feature lighting for the project. After careful consideration and several onsite tests he decided on the Anolis ArcPad 48 SmartWhite 25 degree LED wash fixtures to efficiently illuminate the intricate floral iron mesh dome surrounding the retail precinct of the complex.

The 23 Anolis fixtures were supplied by Cameron Gunning from VAST in Brisbane. Cameron was also involved in the consultation for the lighting design and commissioning of the installation. Final installation was carried out by Stowe Electrical who were the Electrical contractors for the project.

Three Anolis ArcPower 348 Rack-mounts were installed to provide power and data to the ArcPad fixtures. All the Anolis lighting is controlled via a wall mount Anolis controller – Arc Control 1024. Scenes and lighting cues are pre programmed and scheduled to run autonomously via the inbuilt timeclock, the main cue being a slow fade between the 3200k Warmwhite and the 6000k Coolwhite.

The ULA Group's Architectural Lighting Manager Blair Terrace comments: This project was quite unique as it utilised the Anolis ArcPad's in White LED performing slow fades between several colour temperatures to achieve a subtle change to the depth and appearance of the architecture being illuminated. This kind of effect is usually reserved for RGB fixtures. The smart white Anolis ArcPad 48s achieved a vibrant lighting effect, transforming the illuminated surfaces while morphing through the white light spectrum.
