Inspired by Chef Darren Simpson’s lively nature, La Scala on Jersey Restaurant & Cocktail Bar promises to visually delight guests at every turn. The recently opened Woollahra eatery boasts Simpson’s design vision which has been meticulously executed by Annie Snell Design to deliver a sophisticated yet simple Italian restaurant and cocktail bar with a cheeky twist.

A vibrant collection of bespoke design pieces decorates the entry foyer including a wall striped with Astroturf, punctuated by a chair which protrudes from the wall in midair, whilst the entry chandelier is cleverly constructed from a collection of giant whisks.

After scaling the grand Italian travertine staircase (La Scala which translates to “the staircase” in English) guests are welcomed to a vibrant bar and dining haven surrounded by brilliantly coloured walls in green, yellow and hot pink. These are interspersed with quirky food inspired murals of vibrant green artichoke and a fork entangled with spaghetti. The cutlery theme continues, with a giant metallic silver fork and spoon perched side by side on the dining room wall, adding to the vibrant culinary environment.

The sleek private dining room with stainless steel accents and mirrored surfaces offers the perfect sanctuary for groups wishing to dine in a more intimate space. Whilst a custom made dining table stretching seven metres through the centre of the bar provides an impressive location for enjoying a selection of Piccolini with a bespoke cocktail.

A customised black and white mural which engulfs an entire wall and features a disappearing landscape with a lone black cat wondering into the distance is Simpson’s favourite piece while the design journey continues up to another level bringing ladies to the luxurious powder room complete with luxurious red walls, sophisticated black and white lounges and dressing room style lighting with a stunning view into the city.

With so many quirky design elements, guests are sure to notice something different each time they dine! The design adds to the fun and vibrant atmosphere of the venue and it has been great to be involved with this side of the project.’

The eclectic design is complemented by innovative lighting, mirrors and furniture that offers a unique juxtaposition of styles for guests bringing a fun, sexy atmosphere to La Scala on Jersey that is completely separate from its downstairs counterpart, the Light Brigade Hotel.
