Carina Leagues Club, is one of South East Queensland’s most respected Clubs and home to the Easts Carina Junior Rugby League Football Club. The club has recently celebrated the finish of a large renovation designed by Brand and Slater and project managed and built by Intero Hospitality Projects.

To allow the continued functioning of the Club during construction, a carefully detailed staging plan was developed to minimize disruption to patrons.

The intent was to expand the open floor plan concept to allow maximum flexibility in terms of usage. The structure and sitting of the existing building and its proximity to the club’s main football field, required careful consideration to ensure a seamless addition to the existing facility.

The western outlook required sunshade modelling to ensure patron comfort and to provide a practical and efficient mechanical engineering isolation.

The extension to the Administration and Gaming area projected into the carpark and became highly visible from the entry. Once again, the extension needed to be seamless to provide a sympathetic addition to the Club’s facade.

The extended outdoor and smoking area provides additional protected bistro and lounges areas with southerly aspect without restricting the pleasant outlook over the football field.

External materials were selected to match the existing club which had already been modelled on a cost effective and highly efficient CFC system.

Internal material selection provided colour, texture and detail. The bathrooms were remodelled, providing water efficient equipment and fresh finishes. Significant water harvest tanks were installed and are used for flashing and landscaping purposes.

The Club had identified a need for increase lounge and dining facilities, as well as an upgrade of amenities. The gaming room had to be relocated and allow for an
increase number of gaming machines. Additionally an increase in outdoor and smoking areas was considered desirable.

Larger back of house storage areas and better access from the Club to the back of house area was considered a priority.”

A refresh of the reception and integration of an upgraded Bottleshop to reflect the upgraded Club facility was identified as a necessity.

Because of the extensions to the existing clubhouse the existing carpark had to be reconfigured to ensure optimum traffic flow onto and off site.

The design of the custom carpet through the space was influenced by the motif found on a Tiger print, to coincide with the Carina Leagues Club tiger logo. Designed to mimic a large rug across the space with variations of the one print that define areas of the bistro, gaming and walkways.

The striking look of the carpet throughout the venue is balanced by neutral tones used on the ceiling and walls with the warm tones of timber panel cladding on walls. Inserts of colours taken from the carpet are featured in the stacked panels of timber cladding.

Custom in-house designed feature lighting in the dining area brings drama and a feeling of height to the ceiling space as large vibrant red rings descend from the ceiling above. Maximum height to the ceiling throughout has been used to not only offer a sense of space, but to allow for flexibility in future development.

A “quiet room” has been made a feature in Carina Leagues Club, herald as a first for sporting clubs. This multi use space is characterised by the mix of furniture, placement in the club and views across the sporting field.

A new cashier booth for the gaming room and clad in red, orange and brown panels to tie in with new carpets, and finishes.
