Alexa Nice Interior Design is excited to announce the creation of a New Mexican themed Bar and tuckeria in the heart of Foritude Valley. Chilliwow showcases the fun and style of the modern mexican bar.

The existing space has had its original industrial features highlighted, exposing brickwork, timber beams and concrete elements. It’s from this unique canvas that the design for Chilliwow was created.

The overall spectrum of colour use is broad, yet honed to specific areas, invoking the colours of Mexico without being a pastiche of its rich culture. Custom painted artwork throughout, adds another depth to the colourful interior.

On the ground floor, featuring the main bar, seating, outdoor area as well as DJ cart and dancefloor, the layout is an all-encompassing entrance.  Inspiration has been taken from colours and patterns of Mexican geographical elements, with blues, yellows, pinks and oranges applied to the Facade, Interior and alfresco areas, with architectural and cultural elements  layered into the design, lush accents of festivities, iconography and Mexican symbolism completing the look.

Moving to the upper floor of Chilliwow, it becomes an aesthetic ascent into elements of astrology, featuring moons and stars decorating the background to the second bar and additional seating areas.

LG03 Speaker

The LG03 is loaded with proprietry LG Series 6.5″ Bass/Mid Transducer and is coupled via an advanced design crossover network to a 1″ H.F. Compression Driver and 90° x 60° Horn Flare. The Horn Flare can be rotated through 90° allowing the cabinet to be mounted for either vertical or horizontal applications and still maintain the required H.F dispersion characteristics.

Acoustic Technologies

The overall design and feel of Chilliwow is a colourfully rich, playful and relaxed atmosphere showcasing the historically beautiful Mexican culture and combining it with the equally colourful modern Brisbane social scene.

The venue required a versatile accurately zoned sound system that blended into the exotic and colourful decor but still provides the required volume levels. Acoustic Technologies supplied the system which was installed by Jason Roesler from AutonomyTEK.

The design criteria was to supply even sound coverage in all areas, separate source and volume control for each zone, visually unobtrusive speakers, multiple inputs connections around the venue and simple control for staff.

The end result is an extremely versatile system that provides amazing performance in the space while maintaining an extremely low profile. Every speaker is extremely well placed and does not intrude on the intended visual experience of the venue but still maintains a strong audible presence. In particular, the LG03 cabinets provide stunning volume and clarity for their size which is extremely imperative as DJs and live performers (mainly Mariachi bands) use the system as their primary source of sound reinforcement. MK100’s provide amazing coverage and clarity in the lounge and seating areas while a single MK75 mounted directly in the centre of the private function room roof provides strikingly uniform coverage through out the space.

Outside was a challenge to provide even adequate sound as stringent restrictions were set on how many speakers could be installed and exactly where they could be placed. It was decided to use three weatherproof LG03E (Environmental) enclosures tied to a single dual 10″ LGB01 subwoofer all of which are mounted to the walls and roof of the high entrance archway.

A pair of MK50 ultra compact cube enclosures provide clear sound in the toilets - BUT… its not background music nor is it a DJ or Mariachi band that you will hear rather it’s “Learn to Speak Spanish Lessons” on repeat.

Overall the new system installed at Chilliwow catches the attention of patrons and professionals alike all whom can’t help but comment on just how good it sounds. Next time your in the valley or have a hankering for quality Mexican food and a fantastic party vide be sure to drop into Chilliwow for a taco, chill dog or chill beer !
