Four Points by Sheraton Sydney, Darling Harbour has brand new refurbished accommodation rooms, enhancements made to the Corn Exchange Restaurant and The Grand Ballroom as part of its $20 million refurbishment.
The new Premium Room category has been designed with an interior that embraces simplicity, authenticity and an emotional response, appealing to both the business and leisure guest. Influenced by its location in Darling Harbour and its position on the edge of the business district the design creates a sense of place.
This brand new room category includes Premium City Side and Harbour View Rooms whilst the larger Deluxe Harbour View Rooms and Premium Maritime Suites feature balconies with panoramic views of Darling Harbour.
The new rooms have distinctive modern additions with completely renovated bathrooms featuring walk-in showers, contemporary furnishings, state of the art lighting, wireless access and iPhone/iPad connectivity to delight the senses.
The hotel has also completed improvements to The Corn Exchange restaurant and a complete new outdoor setting for the Terrace. The hotels Grand Ballroom has also been renewed with a complete makeover consisting of all finishes and the latest Audio Visual technology enhancing the experience for successful meetings and events.
Additionally the Heritage Atrium is an exciting new space which portrays a touch of historical Sydney in a modern meeting and event space.
For designers Elenberg Fraser the main design challenges were the detailed configurations of guestrooms, the parameters set by refurbishing the largest hotel in the country and the conversion of existing meeting areas to guestrooms.
The most innovative design features is the use of LED lighting at the bedhead, bathroom mirror, minibar mirror, wardrobe and desk lamp which creates ambient light throughout the room at a cost effective nature which requires minimal maintenance.
The most innovative materials used are the woven nylon wall coverings on the bathrooms sliding door and wardrobe which is extremely durable and luxurious in aesthetic.
In order to create a sense of place, design influence was taken from the location in Darling Harbour and its location on the edge of the business district which forms its client base. A feature headboard, desk and bedside tables are all made from a Limed Oak Veneer to emulate the washed decking of seaside piers, the desk and armchair are upholstered in masculine tweeds and the drapery is a multicoloured herringbone pattern that draws both on mens suiting and the water patterns created when light reflects upon it.
Another important consideration in Elenberg Fraser’s approach to the guestroom interiors was the consumer reaction against the excess of recent times. They strove to create an interior that embraces simplicity, authenticity and an emotional response which still appeals to the discerning client. This is articulated in simply detailed furniture, the inclusion of smart, integrated LED light technology and custom designed joinery, lighting, upholstery and textiles.
