Main Bar
The main bar area is a contemporary version of a traditional pub. It is designed to highlight some of the original building components, such as plaster ceiling details, distressed flooring and the timber staircase. WFCD have contrasted these with newer elements such as the bar, thereby emphasizing the patina of the heritage features. There is an eccentric mix of timbers, different tiles (feature bar tiles and mosaics on tables) and contemporary furniture. There are hand crafted elements (such as the component screens) giving a level of comfort and intimacy to the space.

Dining Room
In the dining room WFCD have used strong graphic details in black and white with bright yellow highlights (Black and white wall paneling, black leather bench seating with bright yellow cushions). To the back of the dining area we have a raised portion with hounds tooth carpet and upholstered wall panels giving a

feeling of hospitality. Throughout the dining area the distressed table tops contrast with the more contemporary upholstered chairs.

Upstairs Function Areas
The design is modeled on a traditional Gentlemen’s club with lots of warm timbers, dark and moody earthy tones and ‘over cushioned’ leather upholstered furniture. There are numerous decorative features (light fittings, wall papers etc) from different stylistic periods (Islamic tiles, Scandinavian furniture) creating a bespoke and un-expected experience.

The clients desire for a ‘unique’ venue was realised but the project has also contributed to the patrons by stimulating vivid memories to recreate a time, space or mood in their past. The design demonstrates the role that domestic objects play in society, and their symbolic importance in our culture and history.

dbx ZonePRO 1261m

The ‘m’ version of the ZonePRO 1261m was born out of an overwhelming user desire to extend the reach of ZonePRO into further applications requiring additional microphone inputs. The new ZonePRO 1261m share the same total numbers of inputs and outputs as the ZonePRO 1261 but features six additional mic/line inputs. Ambient Noise Compensation (ANC) is also introduced on the new ZonePRO 1261m. This processing function allows the level of zone outputs to track the ambient noise level, monitored through a microphone and microphone input.

The Golden Gate Hotel, built in 1853, is one of South Melbourne’s oldest, most historical venues. Situated in the heart of South Melbourne on the corner of Clarendon and Coventry Streets, the Golden Gate Hotel has recently been extensively refurbished and this once traditional pub has been reinterpreted as both a classic and contemporary design space.

Pulse Audio Visual designed and installed a new audiovisual system into the Hotel as part of the refurbishment of the venue and as quality was a number one priority, a JBL sound system was chosen.

The venue is divided into four zones (front bar, restaurant/lounge area and two function rooms upstairs) and each zone has its own audio source and volume level, controlled by a wall mounted keypad installed in each bar, thanks to a dbxZonePRO 1261m digital multi-zone audio management system.

“The ZonePRO is reliable, functional, and easy to operate and install,” commented Adam Dullens, managing director of Pulse Audio Visual.

The front bar houses six JBL Control 28 wall mount speakers (with invisible brackets). Crown XLS series power amplifiers that were still going strong were also reused. JBL Control25 speakers are installed in the restaurant.

”The client wanted a lounge style feel to the venue where they could have background music during the day and DJ’s all through the week if they wanted,” said Adam. “With the DJ’s they wanted a moderate volume level but also to have the ability to crank up the volume in the front bar at the weekend.

”The front bar and function rooms all use JBL Control 28 speaker which we have set up to deliver consistent volume throughout the venue but they can certainly turn them up to get more of a nightclub feel. Invisible brackets were used to mount the JBL Control 28 speakers thus keeping the interior designer happy!”

A Samsung 42” plasma panel is installed downstairs as are two DJ positions plus a DJ point upstairs.

The larger of the function rooms, Function Room One, is ideal for parties and the like whilst Function Room Two is set up in a board room style for corporate meetings and functions. Function Room One utilizes six JBL Control28 wall mount speakers plus two existing JBL MP255S subwoofers. Function Room Two has four JBL Control24C in-ceiling speakers plus a JBL Control19CS in-ceiling subwoofer.

Both Function rooms feature a Planar PR3010 Video Projector (2500 Ansi / 2000:1 / 4000 Hours – Eco), a
Venturi Ceiling-Mount Projector Bracket and an Image Premium Manual Projection Screen (16:9 / 100”). A PC connection point is installed upstairs, and all displays are connected to a central AV matrix system, allowing any connected visual source to be routed to any or all screens simultaneously.

A Jands 39RU equipment rack, located in the manager’s office, houses two Crown XLS202D stereo power amplifiers, two Crown XLS602D stereo power amplifiers, a Crown XTI1000 power amplifier (with DSP) and a Crown CDI1000 power amplifier (with DSP).
