Brimming with industrial charm, Kerbside Bar in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley is an alleyway retreat to make any Melbourne aficionado proud. The funky hang out drew inspiration from Melbourne’s bar scene and unique social culture.

Raised from a former drive-through liquor store and creatively remodelled, the bar utilises found and recycled materials to create a relaxed, artful atmosphere. The lounge area is filled with an abundance of vintage furniture, some of which was kindly donated by loyal patrons. Reclaimed heritage doors form the main bar structure, while graffiti art adorns every wall.

Practically all materials and furniture was rescued from local Op shops and antique centres, giving the venue a ‘lived in’ feeling. Every piece tells a story, and most people would be hard pressed to enter the space and not be reminded of earlier days when such furniture was common in their own modest kitchens, school rooms or backyards.
The towering tin roof gives a feeling of space, while the large central chandeliers soften the coarse steel beams and industrial shelving with soft light. The juxtaposition of homely furnishings and reclaimed natural wood against the existing steel structure works well and has given new life to the old drive through.

This new addition to Brisbane’s social attractions directory recognises the need for an innovative, comfortable venue delivering good food, drink and charisma to all.

Originally the space was the Bottle’o for Fringe Bar but when they decided to put the empty space to good use, JVG Sound Lighting & Visual was enlisted to make their vision a reality.

Amongst the vintage furniture and quirky ornaments, JVG has strategically placed their sound system to blend in, yet still create

maximum audio quality for the patrons. Installed were one J Audio 15” subwoofer and four 10” J Audio architectural speakers.

A Nexia processor was installed for digital processing and AMXcontrol. DJ gear includes a Pioneer DJM800 mixer,CDJj1000 and turntables.

The eccentric lighting system is comprised of hanging lights in clusters from the beams and also one chandelier. JVG had to make sure all lighting fell under OH&S regulations whilst still maintaining the mood of the lighting system.

“Overall, the job was a huge success and client is extremely happy,” commented Jade Golar, managing director of JVG.
