Khokolat Bar is a nightclub located in the basement of an old converted warehouse building in one of Melbourne’s popular laneways. Having operated for a few years, the venue was in need of a refreshment that encompassed a complete Bar re fit, new finishes to floor and walls, a new entry treatment and some new furniture and lighting.
One of the main aims was to create a new main ‘attractor’ bar replacing the existing tired and chipped one. Referencing the allure of the backlit jukebox, we explored a kind of Moderne interpretation where the future is retrofitted into chocolate box of desires. Here, the layers of offerings range from new striped carpet floor as a wrapping, brown foil like wallpaper to the entry / lounge zone, then passing the dripping forms of the black Kant plastic stools to behold a dark chocolate bar encasing a nougat like center with fine minty bubbled core.
Behind, the bronze mirror display wall reflects the satiated patrons in a warm fuzzy cherry glow. The deep reveal, lined with striped chocolate/ cherry vinyl helps to frame the composition which is extended overhead by the circular matrix dot lights appearing to pulsate.
Concert Audio Visual designed and supplied the lighting and audio including 8 Concert Series VJS12 Mid / HiI cabinets, 3 EV HL18 subs,
2 WharfedaleFL18 - Black Widow, 2 Phonic XP5000 amplifiers, 1Phonic XP3000 amplifier and a DBX Driverack 260 processor.
DJ Gear includes 3 Pioneer CDJ1000 MK3 CD players, a Pioneer DJM800 Mixer, 2 Numark TTX turntables and a DB Opera 405 DJ Monitor.
