Celebrity chef Adrian Richardson wanted to revilatise the interior of his popular and highly acclaimed bistro. With a menu of unpretentiously honest modern Australian fare, the restaurant is known for its meat dishes, the house aged beef a specialty.

Recycled Australian hardwoods were introduced to provide warmth, and aged bronze mirrors places strategically throughout reflect a generous amount of light into the restaurant downstairs. The kitchen was opened up to the restaurant to give the diners an appreciation of the workings of a commercial kitchen.

Light fittings by Melbourne industrial designer Joost are fashioned from old fencing wire.

Upstairs in the function rooms, faux cowhide vinyl paper from Elitis Paris decorates the walls in a checkerboard fashion. Oversized black

drum shades are lined in gold to provide a hint of sparkle in an otherwise neutral palette.

An appropriate element of humor is introduced in the first floor function room toilet, with a photographic mural of cows staring at patrons as they use the facilities.

Adrian wanted to incorporate sustainable elements wherever possible in the renovation. Low VOC paints were chosen, recycled materials were used wherever appropriate and low energy lamps replaced standard halogen. New flooring in the bistro downstairs is slip resistant vinyl from Altro, which is fully recyclable (contributing to less land fill). Upstairs a goat hair carpet from Tretford was chosen for its durability Green Star rating.
