SHED 5 is a new industrial aesthetic 120 seat restaurant and bar at Melbourne’s South Wharf development.

SHED 5 is located within the refurbished 19th century heritage listed dock and wool store on the Yarra waterfront.

loopcreative was originally approached by the developer to prepare the retail strategy and masterplan for the 5000sqm South Wharf, which was subsequently divided into a series of complementary restaurants and bars.

Sean Dix Work Stool

The Sean Dix Collection makes use
of powder coated steel , new shapes and designs combined with the extensive use of sustainable timbers. There is also an extensive commercial fabric collection to choose from. Sean Dix is an American designer based in Hong Kong and mainland China. He is internationally recognized for original and unique products.

Be Seated Global

Rod Faucheux and Stan Sarris of loopcreative believed in the concept so much and with Sarris’ food background it was logical that they took one of the tenancies, SHED 5. This marks Sarris’ first foray into the restaurant scene since the Banc and GPO days and is the first for Melbourne – next on the agenda is The Spare Room, a bar next door to SHED 5 which is currently in advanced design stages

The food at SHED 5 has a distinct Mediterranean flavor specifically with greek influences which is largely as a result of the heritage of Sarris and chef Vas Donoudis.

Donoudis, formerly of Mamababa, Church St Enoteca & Pendolino fuses Greek classics imparted by family members and is excited by the opportunity to create classic Mediterranean dishes using the freshest, seasonal, Australian produce in the Beech wood oven.

The SHED 5 aesthetic is predominately steel and timber with a feature tile wall and an old school neon sign at the front door. There is a 5 tonne steel rolled and riveted banquette along with a 2 tonne folded steel bar and an industrial scaled tiled feature wall with a subtle greek nod.

The lights were reclaimed from an English train station. The 120 year old timber floorboards have been retained and the heritage customs booking office has been restored and is now used by SHED 5 as a Private Dining Room & Wine Cellar. Loop Creative wanted the space to have a strong identity in keeping with the building’s heritage.

This was a total project for loopcreative including 3D visualization, interior design, graphic design & branding.
