The fully refurbished multi-level Shooters Bar and Nightclub in the heart of Surfers Paradise is owned by several people including Dion Colefax and John Hussey who lead the venue.

The interior design was done by Geoff Worthing from Decorative Effects whilst the audio, visual and lighting was designed by Special Guest DJ’s Installations around his designs.

Through consulting with the new owners a bold decision was made to cut away from the old styled saloon bar to a smooth and lighter look, using an element of high gloss white antique and modern furniture and fittings. Also including a blend of plush velvets and studded Vinyls, it added a softer feel to the space.

Due to the large footprint of Shooters, it enabled Decorative Effects to create individual spaces for the clientele. In the V.I.P. lounge room, there is a more relaxed vibe with soft furniture and modern edge artwork. For a contrast the dance floor area is loaded with a big sound and integrated LED lights, giving the room a flood of colour.

For lighting the venue a huge amount of Visio was used for bar and main room down lighting. Also used for LED were over forty rolls of RGB Tape with ACME controllers for full control of every part of the venue if needed.

“For the dance floor effects, I wanted an original design as so many clubs on the Gold Coast look similar, so we went with Robe Scan 575 xt’s as well as re-conditioned Robe 250 Spots,” said Philip

Morgan, director of Special Guest DJ’s. “Also in the design is Co2 Cannons, 4-way blinders, UV Guns, and 36*1w LED washes to give it an original feel.

“We have had a great response from all patrons about the new fit out and technology.”

The resulting lighting is big room dance floor effects whilst highlighting different areas such as the podiums or stage shows or just the patrons on the dance floor. With the help of the Co2 Cannons, according to Philip, the light shows are amazing and, apart from a couple of minor bugs, the lights have performed well.

Lighting is controlled by an E:Cue Excite Program in the DJ Console.

“The response from the patrons has been really good,” said Philip. “Lot’s of old and new faces are coming to the venue, loving it and staying for a great night. This is the response we were hoping for and are very pleased to have achieved this with one of Australia’s most famous nightclubs.

“The venue’s management has also been very impressed with the technology and how it all integrates together for the final effect. It is good to see Shooters re-designed better than the original nightclub. Its new sexy classy image is well received across the field of the most hardened club goers. The combination of great staff, amazing lighting and sound, new lay out and rocking music will no doubt make Shooters the no.1 Nightclub on the Gold Coast once again.”
