The venue is one of four new venues opening out onto the new CityLane development and is also a fitout of an existing building.

The designers say that they design spaces as if they were sitting at every seat, so from every aspect there is something to draw your attention to and entertain.

With the selection of materials they tried to reduce, re-use and recycle as they had a very tight budget hence no fancy finishes.

Colour scheme was dictated by the fact that the client wanted something bright and happy that matched the venue’s name – bright yellows and vibrant reds set off with astroturf and rainbow umbrellas so you can’t help but feel happy in the space – even before a jam jar cocktail.

”We think that lighting is the best way to create maximum impact and drama on a minimal budget…where we spent money on joinery and design features were highlighted with fully dimmable lighting.,” commented designer Simone Barr.

A special feature is the recycled brick wall that re-uses bricks knocked out from the opposite tenancy, they add to the salvaged, kitschy cool atmosphere that the designers were after and they were free!

Gnomes are a key feature and have had to be glued down as even though they are up very high, patrons still can’t resist kidnapping them.
