3R Design were approached to introduce the brand identity of “The Depot” that they created at Derby on Derby street, for this new site in the district of Hamilton in Newcastle. The site involved the old masonic hall that was in a state of disrepair and had involved numerous unsympathetic additions and fit outs.
A priority of the client was to open up the vast void of the space to expose the original timber roof structure, cladding and clerestory windows. This was achieved through the removal of the third storey floor and suspended ceiling which exposed the original architectural features. These original and existing features were then painted in the one neutral “western myall” colour to differentiate the new and existing structure.
New elements, such as the maitre’d and mezzanine wall panelling were finished in the feature yellow. The ground floor bar also incorporated the brands’ shipping container bar front, corten steel panelling to the rear lounge and dindas board panelling to divide the ground floor space under the mezzanine, for banquette seat dining.
