The Ivanhoe Hotel, a much-loved local pub, is located in the heart of The Corso in Manly on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Behind the magnificent heritage facade, The Ivanhoe Hotel’s interiors channel a Hamptons-inspired coastal beach vibe while retaining the welcoming and relaxed atmosphere of Manly and a local pub.

The revitalized venue boasts indoor and outdoor, relaxed all-weather spaces over three floors, including two of Sydney’s most impressive rooftop bars.

Paul Kelly Design has been working with The Ivanhoe for twelve years on several developments and have spent two years alone designing the current Ivanhoe Project.

The Ivanhoe Hotel, unlike the Hotels which surround it, has no views to the ocean. This meant the design had instead look in upon itself, and create its own lush green inner world onto which the interior spaces borrowed both light and an sense of extended space.

The design has a Hamptons influence, which Paul Kelly Design interpreted as a relaxed and casual sophistication. These spaces have a timeless quality which is achieved through a base palette of white with subtle highlights of soft blues, jade greens and weathered driftwood greys. All of which provide subtle cues to the projects beachside location.

The design direction has subtle links to a perception of a classic coastal interior, a location that exists in images and from other peoples holiday photos. This interior is intended to exceed the expectation of this collection and is intended to create an atmosphere of quality and subtle design.

The materials used in the space have been collected from around the globe; the Silver Travertine is Italian (the only supplier of Silver Travertine in the world), the coloured encaustic floor tiles are hand made in Turkey, even made with the Hotels Logo, the wall cladding is from a coastal Queensland beach house and the hanging lobster pots are from the South Australian coast.

The design is subtle yet bold as Paul Kelly Design has intentionally tried to push some concepts in the interior that have not been completed previously internationally. They want the customers to feel that they are within a design and quality focused business, and to feel that this venue is benchmarked to a level of at least the Sydney CBD, if not Miami or NY.

The developments focus has definitely been on attracting a premium clientele, and a client that is interested in quality food and beverage a market that is currently under catered For in the Manly Precinct.

Beyond AV did a complete upgrade of the audio visual system in the hotel with the brief provided by Paul Kelly and the client Tim Peterson, being to provide a great sounding, easy to control AV system that didn’t detract from the aesthetics of the hotel.

A number of speaker options were evaluated and then demonstrated to both the design team and the owner until the decision was made to go with the Martin Audio and QSC speaker option.

The control system consists of wall mounted iPads that communicate with the AMX Control System which in turn directs the BSS Audio Processors to route the audio commands as required. The AMX also communicates directly via RS232 to the Sharp TVs to select FTA channels to each TV. Two 4 channel digital modulators allow the Nightlife Vision, DVD and Foxtel Channels to be selected on the TVs as well.

Martin Audio AQ6 speakers were installed in the the main internal areas and where more SPL was required the slightly larger Martin AQ8 speakers with the AQ212 Sub Bass were installed.

The outdoor areas on the ground floor and the larger outdoor space on level one were covered with QSC weather resistant speakers, the AD-S82H, ADS282H, as well as the AD-S28Tw. The first floor balcony dining area over the corso has installed the smaller AD252H.

All new QSC 4 channel amplifiers C404s, three BSS Audio Processors 3 BLU100s and a BLUBOB deliver 36 audio inputs to 32 outputs across four levels of the hotel. All equipment is maintained
in an air-conditioned temperature controlled comms room.

Wall mounted iPads control the complete system through the AMX matrix controller; Everything IT brought together all the aspects of the AV system as well as controlling the hotel’s lighting system in an easy to control system program design which can even be controlled
via your iPhone.

Martin Audio AQ6

A two-way passive loudspeaker designed to fulfill the requirement for dynamic performance from a very small, architecturally friendly, vented enclosure. It features a 165mm direct radiating, long-throw bass driver and a 25mm doped fabric dome tweeter coupled to a 90° x 90° HF horn.

TAG

Numerous slim line wall mounted Sharp LED TVs indoors, three of which disappear into the ceiling when not being used, keep the indoor areas looking smart and outside three 55in Sunbrite Weatherproof
TVs provide a great solution with clean lines and no bulky metal boxes concealing standard TVs.

The DJ systems are all state of the art Pioneer Pro DJ CD players and mixers from the Nexus range of products.

The AV installation ran smoothly over the course of building works.
Beyond AV’s installation team led by Michael Koutsakis did an exceptional job coordinating with the other trades and overcoming any obstacles and keeping to the time schedule and the budget.
