After an incredible redevelopment process at the end of 2014, The Langham, Sydney is officially revealing what Australia’s newest and most exclusive five star hotel looks like post its multi-million dollar redesign.

The internationally designed five-star hotel which has long been a secret haven for A-Listers, supermodels and royalty, is now completely transformed as the newest hotel under the Hong Kong based Langham Hospitality Group’s portfolio.

Langham Hospitality Group purchased The Langham, Sydney [previously The Observatory Hotel] in 2012 from Orient Express and rebranded in the same year before confirming redesign plans in 2014. This anticipated redevelopment was executed in four short months – one of the country’s slickest, fastest hotel development projects to date.

“Sydney is a glamourous city, like Paris, London or New York and we wanted to cater to people who are aspirational about these style of cities” reveals General Manager, Sonia Lefevre.

“A dramatic arrival experience, mixology with jazz after 5pm, the biggest guestrooms in Sydney, signature terraces with water views, take away picnic boxes, pink bicycles and bespoke maps for local touring, a million dollar Sotheby’s art collection, dog friendly suites, private butler tennis afternoons – all very unique offerings for a Sydney hotel”.

GA Design out of London played a critical part in designing every detail including every room, structure, interior fit out and each piece of furniture inside the hotel. From the gold and white shellac finish on the reception desk, to the multi-million dollar spa redesign, to the expansive marble fireplaces in each public space, to each chair, table, coffee table, bed head, chandelier, handmade rug, interior fit out and lamp shade.

“Everything is hand designed; created specifically for this hotel” comments GA London, Executive Direct, Su Ball.

“Langham is such an iconic brand that we wanted to ensure our designs communicated the story of the hotels’ grand history whilst simultaneously reinvigorating the spaces with contemporary design elements combined with sophisticated and classic references.” said Su Ball.

“In order to give the hotel a high-end residential feel, we introduced rich, elegant materials and stylish features aiming to produce unique yet timeless spaces for the guests to enjoy.”

“Our hope is that The Langham, Sydney will be recognised as the most luxurious hotel in Australia and be testament to the eminent Langham brand.” comments Su Ball.

Comprising of 98 lavish rooms and suites, The Langham, Sydney embodies modern luxury and lavish elegance. From the stunning Grand Langham room – the largest standard room in Sydney, to the two or three bedroom Residence Suite with private chefs kitchenette, to the opulent riches of The Observatory Suite, every room boasts impeccable design, quality finishes and attention to detail.

“Each room features ornate design pieces; from Vogue hard cover books, to silver Wedgwood bedside clocks and Kate Spade designer pieces” says Lefevre.

Social Sydney isn’t forgotten with new lifestyle market additions; Palm Court hosts an opulent tea room overlooking the Western Harbour through Parisian style shutters, serving Afternoon Tea with Wedgwood; from late afternoon onwards, Palm Court Bar treats Sydney-siders to gastronomic cocktails and jazz with some of Europe’s finest mixologists behind the bar; soon to be launched Private Butler Tennis Afternoons on the hotel’s city-scape tennis court – finish in your tennis whites with cucumber sandwiches and Pimms & Lemonade; and brand new foodie offering, Kent Street Kitchen led by Chef de Cuisine, Daniel Rudolph [formerly of est. and Guy Savoy Paris] serving a European chic menu and featuring one of Sydney’s most beautiful Chef’s Table’s – a three metre white marble table in the middle of an open Chef’s kitchen.

One of Sydney’s most famous spa facilities, The Day Spa, located at the hotel has received a multi-million dollar re-design of its own. The famous star dazzled pool, recently voted Sydney’s #1 Hotel Pool by Wotif travellers, remains intact, being the only element of the hotel that was not changed.

Art lovers are treated to a hand curated collection by Sotheby’s on the Ground Level, featuring an array of celebrated Australian artists including Sidney Nolan, Andrew Browne, Albert Tucker and Brett Whitley. There are two notable dramatic vertical resin pieces by Asher Bilu in the Grand Lobby, which were recently in the artists home until they were selected for this exclusive collection.

“The collection is striking and encourages visitors and guests to wander through the public spaces and explore the ground level at their own leisure” comments Lefevre.

“This isn’t just a hotel for guests staying with us, this is a new destination for Sydney-siders to indulge in”.
