The Watermark Hotel has undergone a transformation, setting it apart as new destination for the senses on the Gold Coast. Sitting in the heart of Surfer’s Paradise directly adjacent to a brand new tram stop, what was previously an outdated Irish Pub in desperate need of a facelift has been reconstructed into an eclectic industrial vintage warehouse inspired Grill, Lounge and Social House that now takes full advantage of its prime location.

Working closely with Brand + Slater architects, the client presented a brief with the view to deliver a completely new offer on the coast, targeting the more sophisticated 20-something year old plus market, whilst fully realising the potential of the site in providing a range of different facilities, function spaces and maximising the hotel site.

What has been developed is an establishment that treats patrons to a diverse range of experiences, all the while maintaining a casual style and eclectic sophistication that is the key identifying ingredient throughout the venue.

Clifford’s Grill and Lounge is a New York warehouse-chic styled eatery, displaying industrial style fittings and finishes that perfectly complement the fare on offer and the raw flame of the grill featured in the open plan kitchen. With exposed ceilings, rustic polished concrete floors, raw brick walls and quirky touches such as old Bakelite radios and vintage sewing machines, Clifford’s exudes an inviting and relaxed atmosphere.

The adjoining raised deck area has proven to be a winner amongst patrons wanting to make the most of the inside / outside connection, whilst observing the buzz of the boulevard below.

A lounge adjoining the restaurant provides the ideal space to relax after a meal and has been designed to be completely flexible with the ability for large custom sliding screens to open up or close off for private functions. The screens are fabricated from recycled windows and when opened create a seamless transition between Clifford’s and the adjoining Walrus Social House.

The Kearra Chair’s shape was inspired by an oversized wine glass figure wrapped in fine lines. Designed by Alvin Tjitrowirjo.

The Walrus Social House offers three more distinct entertainment zones, with an eye catching bar the central focus in all its dazzling black and white geometric glory. It adjoins an alfresco cabana space which has proven to be a huge drawcard with its eclectic mix of lounges, and an intimate gaming lounge with an inviting warmth and sophistication. The bar also ties in with a light and airy café that features recycled, whitewashed timbers and finishes with a contemporary costal vibe.

History is at the heart of the Walrus Social House where the homely yet striking interior is complemented by its bespoke heritage cocktail list. Pressed metal ceilings and recycled timbers are contrasted with contemporary tiles and stones, creating an environment where patrons linger long into the night.
