The new Zushi Sushi and Sashimi restaurant is on the ground and mezzanine floors of the buzzing Crown Street precinct. It’s neighbours are the Winery and the Bentley Bar and it’s the second restaurant for the highly successful Zushi team.

The concept was to create a contemporary Japanese restaurant that served as a platform for the fantastic food by Chef Lee. Loop Creative generated a series of 3D renders to convey their initial ideas and these were well received.

“We wanted it to be dark, moody and intimate by night,” explainedRod Faucheux of Loop Creative. “We also wanted a variety of seating conditions – at the bar while the sushi chef’s prepare in front of you, outside in the filtered light, or up on the mezzanine like stage performers.

” We were determined that everyone gets the best seat in the house.”

For the sushi counter top a laminated glulam beam was used and this doubles as a 5metre chopping board. Where possible the materials were all locally sourced and Loop Creative opted for hand built rather than pre-fabricated. The result is that the fitout like the food, has been made to order.

Some of the other elements contained within the space are terrazzo flooring, provocative wall graphics, custom seating, japan-black timber panelling, and lime green goat hair carpet upstairs along with charcoal micacious bridge paint steelwork throughout.

Lighting from Euroluce and furniture from Café Culture and the ceiling is open to interpretation…
