Bar de Halcyon is the latest character bar to carve its niche in Perth’s trendy Wolf Lane, adding an important texture to the burgeoning small bar and restaurant scene in the CBD.

Officially launched on 10 September 2013, Bar de Halcyon is Perth’s first pintxos (pronounced pin-chos) bar and is located close to King Street - one of Perth’s premier fashion districts.

The Bar’s name came from its interpretation of the word ‘halcyon’ to mean calmness, happiness and joy.

David Heaton, who is behind some of Western Australia’s most successful entertainment venues including Metropolis Fremantle and Capitol Amplifier, was inspired to make the foray into the small bar scene with his business partner, Linda Fry, following a trip to Europe several years ago.

“We wanted to create a destination that caters for everything from a coffee fix first thing in the morning, to lunch and evening cocktails – a place that is convivial and cosmopolitan whatever the time of day,” Mr Heaton said.

“Perth’s hospitality scene is evolving in an exciting way. There is a diverse mix of bars and restaurants for people to enjoy and we are

seeing inspired new influences come through from the Eastern States and across the globe - it is fantastic to be amongst it,” Mr Heaton added.

The two storey venue provides a rustic palette of exposed brick, a sawn timber bar, concrete flooring and large retractable glass windows on the second floor overlooking Wolf Lane.

With a distinctively Western Australian flavour, Bar de Halcyon’s furniture has been custom made by local furniture and industrial designer Chris Maple and the sawn timber table tops and feature wall have been sourced from the historic Bunbury Jetty.

Typical of the pintxos bars of San Sebastian, the kitchen is one of the venue’s main focal points, providing customers with the opportunity to view the food preparation process through its open kitchen. And upstairs on level two, a see-through glazed refrigerated vitrine will allow all to view the ever-changing array of hanging meat.

On a warm summer evening, guests will be able to kick back with Spanish inspired finger food and a glass of Western Australia’s finest wine while watching old films being projected on the adjacent building.
