Baroque is a unique restaurant in Sydney combining cutting-edge pastry and classic French cuisine, brought to you by the Charkos family of La Renaissance Patisserie fame.
Baroque was designed to integrate the clients desire to create a new kind of patisserie/bistro within the raw heritage walls of an old building
Key thoughts behind the design were to plan two spaces ‘an industrial open patisserie and kitchen’ and a ‘quieter bistro/bar’ into two existing interior framed chambers. And to ensure those spaces flowed seamlessly out to the podium terrace.
The new interior, designed with reflective copper, glass and metallic surfaces acts as a counterfoil to the existing highly textured and distressed concrete and masonry interior. The warm luscious reflective
surfaces allow the old interior to be read distinctly.
Human comfort is attained with comfortable furniture, sighting of the patisserie kitchen, acoustic attenuation of the ceiling and the generous scaling up of interior elements, mirrors, walls and bar – all with natural cross ventilation and wonderful bridge, opera house and city views.
Green values permeate the design; water saving devices, low energy lamps, low off gas emitting materials, energy efficient kitchen and allowing the old interior to be – no need to dress up the old girl – we like her just as she is. This was in keeping with the green star rating on the old building when it was recently refurbished.
