Luna Loca is a new bar creating waves in Surfers Paradise. From the stunning wall murals and Latin dance to the delectable cocktail menu, Luna Loca is promising to bring a new culture to Surfers Paradise.

Culture and music are the name of the game. With booths and chicos, chicanas, cars and tattoos artwork on the walls the joint oozes the ability to have fun with a small group in a booth or mix it up on the floor. In some cases light and breezy through to darker overtones some of the artwork is very detailed, but always vibrant, and fun.

The venue is the brainchild of former London bar/club operator, Carl Willetts whose mantra is simple: sophistication, class and culture.

“We wanted to bring some latin-inspired culture to Surfers,” said Willetts. “We’re not out to be a nightclub, we don’t want to be a nightclub, we’re a lounge bar which caters probably more to people close to their 30s.”

“I wanted to create a safe environment for all demographics and ages, more of a European bar culture, I personally see to it with the help of Australian Event Protection that any disruptive elements are kept out”

Willetts has grown up in hospitality and managed since he was 18, has worked in New Zealand, London, Portugal and Spain.

He has hired chefs from Brazil, Venezuela and Tahiti to work at the Orchid Avenue bar.

“There won’t be loud music, there will be lots of latin house, jazzy house & disco style music.”

Spread over 380m², Luna Loca features extensive artwork by Matty (Gangsta Graffix), vibrant colours and furniture (John at Techset). With over fifteen years of industry experience all over the world, Carl knew just how he wanted everything.

“I wanted a warm, edgy and arty environment complimented by authentic Spanish tapas and international cocktails,” he added. “The lighting is a major part but isn’t still quite where I want it to be.

All of the materials in the venue had to be vibrant in startling purples and pinks, like organized chaos, as to compliment the dark tones of the artwork.

”It’s the artwork that really ties the concept together,” Carl said. “Other special features include wrap around bar stations, handmade booths, hanging beer fonts and the furniture itself. Personally, I love the Latin ladies, especially with tattoos.”

JVG Sound Lighting & Visual supplied and installed the lighting, visuals and audio including Samsung plasma screens, Paycom CCTV, Bose control and Sound Choice Pro Audio speakers.
