Recently, Queensland Performing Arts Centre engaged AN+ID to breathe new life into one of its favourite spots, the Lyrebird Restaurant.
The Lyrebird Restaurant first opened in 1985 and its classic elegance, fabulous food and intimate environment have made it a popular dining venue in Brisbane for decades. Given its history, updating the Lyrebird while retaining its signature welcoming charm was not without challenges.
When AN+ID was approached by QPAC, it was an honour to be entrusted with another space designed by QPAC’s original architect Robin Gibson.
AN+ID determined that a simple palette of light and dark timber with hints of metallic copper tones and rich textural finishes represented the expected splendour of the Lyrebird, but updated the interior to be appropriately modern and accessible.
Certain original architectural elements were reinstated, such as the beautiful aggregate walls. The existing furniture has been replaced, with Italian made solid timber chairs and tabletops, in contrasting light and dark oak.
