PM24, Philippe Mouchel at 24 Russell Street is a one of a kind modern French Bistro and Rotisserie.

The most recent venture from the Press Club Group, PM24 has taken over the space long occupied by Japanese restaurant Murasaki, a thorough renovation having completely covered its predecessor’s tracks. The dining space is decked out in classic bistro style, with Bentwood chairs and leather banquettes, while large windows flood the high-ceilinged room with natural light.

There are whitewashed distressed walls, black metal-framed windows, soaring ceilings and lights dangling from cords. There is a splash of colour in the dining room courtesy of some red leather banquette seating, but the colour scheme is mostly subdued.

Your Sound Investment designed and installed the audio system. Being a contemporary French restaurant, with very clean lines and 4.5 metre ceilings an audio system that fitted in the aesthetics and produced good sound quality in what could be a difficult space for audio was required.

Subsequently the Bose FreeSpace system was chosen with the addition of a dual 31 band eq to get the sound acceptable in the space. A Cloud Z4 Controller System Zoner with four Cloud RSL-6 wall controls was installed for control.

Speakers included eight Redback ceiling speakers for corridors and toilets, a Quest MS401 wall mounted speaker for office space, four Bose FS3 Freespace systems with cubes in the main restaurant, private dining and bar locations, plus a Bose DS16F for under Mezzanine dining.

A surprising amount of power (watts) was needed to drive the system due to the restaurants cavernous size and very small inefficient loudspeakers. Amplifiers used were a Cloud CXV425 4 channel amplifier, an Australian Monitor AMIS AMC-30+ amplifier and a Redback A 4016 amplifier.

A 2 channel DBX Graphic EQ for system enhancement was used. The final solutions worked well and provided a clean look and great sound.
