Pocket Bar is an aptly named venue that literally occupies a hole in a wall. It’s just the kind of venue that John Thorpe, of “we don’t want to sit in a hole and drink chardonnay and read a book” fame will loathe.

Featuring retro sofas, wooden benches and coffee tables, Pocket Bar is decorated with plenty of pop art painted straight onto the walls. The bar itself is glass-topped and doubles as a display cabinet for a variety of knickknacks as well as a bookshelf.

One of Sydney new breed of small bars, Pocket Bar is the brainchild of Karl Schlothauer who designed the interior along with help from Sam Ragoli from Studio R. A café-by-day morphing into a bar-at-night, Pocket Bar is proving popular with Darlinghurst’s fashionable crowd.
