Green Globe is the international benchmarking and certification programme for the travel and tourism industry based on the Agenda 21 principles for Sustainable Development endorsed by 182 Heads of State at the United Nations Rio Earth Summit in 1992. Green Globe is managed by EC3 Global, a subsidiary of the Australian based research body Sustainable Tourism Cooperative Research Centre, the world’s largest source of tourism research.
Alila Villas Uluwatu achieved this certification by showcasing a contemporary Balinese-inspired design aesthetic which blends seamlessly into the natural landscape. To reinforce their commitment to the
environment and the local community, WOHA made
use of traditional locally-sourced materials like local bamboo for the ceilings and hand cut stone for garden walls. To ensure their commitment to the environment, the property will be run in a way that will keep their environmental footprint at a minimum.
WOHA even used the natural sloping terrain to the property’s advantage allowing each of Alila Villas Uluwatu’s villas to be individually tiered, providing guests with panoramic views of the ocean and the horizon, regardless of their villa’s location.
