Opah Restaurant celebrates with a nip and tuck
Established for more than ten years at its Cronulla location, Opah Restaurant was ripe for a new fitout. Part of that included finding the right tables and chairs that would suit the revitalised interior, but without sending the budget into a tailspin. General Manager Matt Macris says he was looking for the right balance of quality and affordability so that, across the task, more could be achieved.
“We provide a new vibe, a fresh feel that’s really fun and playful,” Matt explains. “We want to keep up with the trends while still providing the food and drinks we’ve become famous for.”
What problems had you experienced?
“We have a really vibrant atmosphere at Opah,” Matt says. “And across our venue, there are a number of different ways to eat, drink and enjoy. So we needed to furnish each section accordingly, for the comfort of our customers and all the operational practicalities.”
Opah is a popular venue for large groups celebrating birthdays, work functions and family get-togethers. There is also a more formal dining area, a cocktail bar and the open plan casual section. The furniture Matt ultimately selected featured designer appeal and he says was of excellent quality, “particularly for the price”.
How Cafeideas helped
One of the first things Matt noticed about Cafeideas was that the website appeared very high in the Google search rankings and he didn’t have to look too far to find it. “The website was awesome,” he says. “It’s easy to get around and you can see everything in full view. There are plenty of viewable options so you can see all chairs in one go, or filter by price.”
Having narrowed down a shortlist of options online, Matt then made his way into Cafeideas where he was able to see the products ‘in the flesh’. “I was able to touch and feel the chairs and determine that they were built well and would last a long time. And I was actually amazed at the prices. There was a wooden chair that I saw elsewhere for $180 and at Cafeideas, it was just $80. To be honest, I received some quotes that scared me, from other suppliers!”
Matt was assisted at Cafeideas by Vibha who he says was exceptionally knowledgeable and provided efficient follow-up throughout the transaction.
“I know that in expensive showrooms in the City, they’ll have five different chairs on display but at Cafeideas, there are over fifty and they were all way below what I’d expect to pay. Vibha took the time to understand our needs and to help me select exactly what we’d need, at the budget I had in mind.”
When asked if he would deal with Cafeideas again in the future, Matt said he would make the website his first port of call and would certainly pay a visit to the showroom again.
From Cafeideas, sourced the following products: Interlace bar tables, Interlace bar stools, Interlace arm chairs, Alba bar stools, Bistro chairs, Kew Bentwood chairs, Boronia Bentwood chairs and Rustic side chairs.
About Opah Restaurant
Situated within a mere stone’s throw of Cronulla Beach, Opah Restaurant could almost be on an idyllic Greek island, with its sea breezes and the fresh aroma of the ocean. Established over ten years ago, it is a favourite haunt of local party types, cocktail lovers and those seeking a wind-down drink at the end of the day. It’s also the scene for large private and work group gatherings, where guests can let their hair down and have a good time. Fully licensed, it also welcomes BYO bottled wine for their famous Greek Yum Cha, an institution in itself! An all-you-can-eat tapas-style extravaganza, it is frequently booked out thanks to its traditional Greek menu that includes spit roast lamb, flat breads with dips, seafood and desserts, among other fabulous dishes.
Matt’s father, Gary started the business in Brighton-Le-Sands fifteen years ago and then Opah relocated to its current location five years later. “Here at Cronulla,” Matt says, “being close to the beach, it’s a much more social kind of environment. As we’ve evolved, we’ve made sure we continue to live up to that energetic party atmosphere and our recent fitout was important for that.”
Indeed, while Opah welcomes families, revellers, couples and guests of all ages, it’s known for its old-school Mediterranean hospitality where “eat more” (not less!) is commonly encouraged by staff at the all-you-can-eat Greek Yum Cha.
Food-wise, Opah is a magnet for Greek food fans. Menu staples include moussaka, souvlaki, garlic prawns, calamari, abundant platters of Greek meats and seafood and of course, luscious desserts and sweets such as baklava, galaktoboureko and their incredible signature Death by Chocolate for two!
Now that Opah has had a bit of a nip and tuck, she’s ready for another ten years of high energy fun, food and fabulousness.
