Verandah Bar and Social are set within a commercial office tower connected by a shared lobby corridor. Spatially, the desire to maximise the balcony and views to the street below was the catalyst for the planning and concept for each space – the concept being ‘an urban oasis’.
The design challenge here is fundamentally about flexibility – an unapologetic practicality and commitment to purpose. The space shape-shifts seamlessly from dining room into cocktail bar or a dance floor – ‘a room of requirement’ so to speak. A holistic approach to the design that encompasses all the various uses required at different times and occasions is a facet of sustainability and design philosophy, that acknowledges commercial realities in the business of hospitality.
The space interprets the concept of an urban oasis by layering exposed elements with Art Nouveau inspired forms and botanical references. The tiled balcony is a contemporary take on patterned encaustic courtyards embodying the sensation of outdoor dining within the space.
