Born and based in Melbourne, Market Lane Coffee is a boutique coffee roastery and retailer dedicated to serving some of the best coffee in town. Roasted at their Prahran Market roastery, Market Lane Coffee brings out the most exquisite characteristics in a cup and then so forth at their five shops, dotted across Melbourne.

Opened earlier this year, Market Lane Coffee Collins Street is its latest addition, located in the bustling heart of downtown Melbourne. Set within an iconic heritage building, designer Sarah Trotter of Hearth was enlisted for its interiors.

Inspired by the café’s views of tree-lined boulevards, the Old Treasury Building and gardens beyond, the interior features eucalyptus-green walls delivering tranquility. Custom-tessellated floor tiles reflect the building’s Victorian heritage and echo both the presence and the geometrics of the trees outside. Trotter also cites the works of Australian tonalist painter Clarice Beckett as a huge influence; think textured fabric walls and seating, blue tones, cloudy marble stone and matte walnut cabinetry.

The injection of blue is no further exemplary than by the addition of Tait’s Tidal Chair, as part of the Tidal collection with Trent Jansen. Carefully specified for the space, the Navy colour scheme brings an almost regal, yet contemporary air to the space. Atmospheric, warm and engaging, Market Lane Coffee Collins Street is undoubtedly a place to stop, rest and collect your thoughts within the CBD.
