Feltex at the Hyatt Hotel Canberra

In 1929, then Australian Prime Minister, James Scullin refused to live in The Lodge and instead took up residence here at The Hyatt Hotel in Canberra. And who can blame him!

The stunning hotel is a testament to the opulent Art Deco interior style so popular at the time. Its recent refurbishment needed to blend contemporary with classic while honouring the elegant hotel’s origins.

Few interiors could stand up to this vibrant custom woven carpet but here it plays beautiful homage to the hotel’s heritage. Contrasting with the crisp white walls the warm rich gold and brown tones and bold rhythmic pattern of this stunning carpet complement features in the timber and gold stair trims. The central carpet design creates a dramatic entrance beneath the sky high glass ceiling flooding the hotel and the grand central staircase with natural light. Architectural features like black hand rails, wide columns, ceiling features and black structural roof beams make this hotel a stunning visual space.

Just steps off Lake Burley Griffin, Parliament House, galleries and museums, there is probably no better location to spend a luxurious weekend in Canberra.
